Print on demand (POD) is a process in which copies of a document are not printed until an order has been received, allowing the document to be printed singly, or in small quantities.

At Complemar Print we use POD everyday and it is a very cost effective process to save customers money and to decrease our costs in producing a job. When a job comes in thru the normal process, it has to be estimated, proofed, order written, paper ordered, wait for an ok from the client, shipped and invoiced. While all these are necessary steps, there are a lot of costs associated with this process. With our POD system, a custom web site is built for the client in which they place product templates. These products can be static or made to incorporate variable data.

Once established, the client logs in to the site and picks a predesigned template he/she has in their account, picks a product, indicates a quantity and a delivery location. They also enter their credit card information and a basic internal print order is generated. The product template file is automatically downloaded to our Xerox IGen4 Digital Press, where it waits in a queue for the operator to review and release it to print. Once printed, it moves into the bindery for any number of different bindery operations (stitch, fold, staple, etc).

Once complete, the operator packages it, adds the shipping details and the package is shipped. The cost savings realized by this process is passed on to our customers. Our customers have the added benefit that it allows companies with single/multiple locations, or with nationwide Sales Reps, to have one location to order a print product which stays consistent to their company’s branding.
